Feel free to forward to others. Contact me off-list if you would like a PDF version suitable for posting. Thank you. Shelley ___________________________ Health Literacy Network Online Community Discussion 'Doing health literacy' Community Discussion September 15-16, 2004 What do we mean when we talk about health literacy? What do health literacy activities look like? Can you do health literacy work and not be aware of it? Is health literacy work an attitude as much as an activity? Do you or your organization provide toll-free health information lines, plain language information, health information in audio format, health advocates, peer educators, workshops to help people navigate the health or social services system? Do you make health information available through radio or local television stations? Are there services or support that you think would be helpful in making health information and services more accessible? Drop by the Health Literacy Network online community and help us identify the many activities and initiatives that fall under the umbrella of health literacy work. Learn what other organizations are offering and let others know about your materials and services. Join us anytime on Wednesday and Thursday September 15 and 16 for an asynchronous discussion--read and respond to notes posted by other HLN members over the two days. Participation is free! At the end of the discussion (midnight September 16th) posts will be summarized and published on the HLN community website and in the next HLN Update newsletter. Remember... we need YOUR participation to make this a discussion and not a lecture. See you September 15th. If you are not a member of the Health Literacy Network online community, visit http://www.communityzero.com/hln to join or send an email to wdi@bccpd.bc.ca and ask to join HLN. Membership is free! Topics for upcoming discussion forums include: * Health literacy and seniors * Health literacy and youth * Culturally appropriate health information * Health communication for people with English as a second language * Health literacy in rural areas * Mental health literacy * Health literacy and specific disabilities and chronic illnesses If you or someone you know is interested in specific topics and would be willing to be a special guest discussant, please contact Shelley at 604-875-0188 or email wdi@bccpd.bc.ca.
