Subject: Brian is doing good. Wednesday, April 22, 1998 Brian's web site----http://www-d0.fnal.gov/~hanlet/Brian/brian.html Dear Friends and Family, Brian is still home. He's been home since last Thursday. We are amazed that he has not gotten sick yet. We are waiting day-by-day and are thrilled that he is doing so well. We don't know what to expect. He entered this phase with a lot of strength and energy. Brian tells everyone he sees, "Guess what? I'm cancer free, but I still have to go through maintenance. My dad has a big hemmorroid and I'm praying for it to go down." He's showing everyone his broviach. He's talking a lot and moving around well. He is not lying around listless like he always did before. Yesterday Sara and Brian drove from Santa Rosa to San Leandro to visit my kindergarten class. My students have been sending him cards and letters and little gifts. I have been sharing photos of Brian with them and telling them about his battle. They were so excited to finally meet him. Brian joined in and played with blocks and cars, sang songs and listened to a story. He told his dad last night, " I had a wonderful day today!" He is beginning to develop mucousitis. Vomited twice today and is now on some pain medication. BUT he is not sick enough to require hospitalization. No fever and his blood counts are ok. He has lost some weight, but until today he has been able to keep down food. His next chemo treatment is scheduled for May 10th. It would be a totally new experience for us if he remains home until then! Is it possible that we will not be "living" in the hospital for weeks at a time? We really don't know. We are thankful to our loving Father for this period of good physical and mental health for Brian. We rejoice each day that Brian is well enough to stay home. We feel that your daily prayers have been answered. Everyone is gathering renewed strength. Love, Susan
