Ambassador Michael D. Kirby traveled to Ceadir Lunga in the Autonomous Territory of Gagauzia in Moldova on October 10th to open a new American Corner in that city.

October 10, 2006

Following the official ceremony, which included opening remarks by Mayor Mihail Formuzal and Ambassador Kirby, a reception was held in the library’s main reading hall.  Over 50 guests attended the opening ceremonies.

The American Corner, a partnership between the Embassy and the Ceadir Lunga Municipal Library, is a small resource center, featuring a collection of books, reference materials, and DVDs in English.  It will be useful for students, professors, businessmen, journalists, and the general public, enabling them to access information about the United States.  Its computers (with Internet), television, and a DVD player, will also enable alumni and other groups to organize presentations, bring in guest speakers and hold meetings.
