Robert E. Jones is
a research engineer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's
Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field in Cleveland, Ohio. His recent
research interests include the development of highly reliable, efficient,
space-based Internet Protocol compliant hardware for space platform
applications as well as airframe safety and security health monitoring architectures and procedures.
In addition, he currently serves as the Radio Frequency Spectrum Manager for NASA GRC and Plum Brook Station.
Mr. Jones has performed research and development in state-of-the-art digital systems for
satellite communications, including advanced digital design for
communications networks, switching and routing, data acquisition,
and system integration and testing. In addition, he has successfully managed
technology development contracts and in-house testing for several NASA program areas including proof-of-concept
modulation and coding hardware, satellite onboard processing
hardware, and space-based Internet Protocol compliant hardware. He also
has extensive experience in research, development,
and application of modeling and simulation techniques of communication
systems. Mr. Jones has mentored several high school and university students and professors
in various NASA GRC summer programs, and has enjoyed being a speaker for elementary school
students during National Engineer's Week for many years.
Mr. Jones earned his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering
with distinction from Tennessee State University, and his master of science
degree in electrical engineering from Cleveland State University. His area of expertise was in digital
systems and computers. He has received numerous awards including the Cleveland Federal Executive Board Wings of Excellence. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Electrical
and Computer Engineering Honor Society (Zeta Kappa) and a Senior Member of
both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Mr. Jones is also a
Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Ohio.
He has been with NASA for over 18 years.
