New York Agencies to Purchase Green Power

New York Governor George Pataki issued an Executive Order calling for state agencies to obtain 10% of their electricity needs from renewable sources, such as wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and fuel cells, by 2005, with the percentage increasing to 20% by 2010. The order applies to state buildings and those of quasi-independent organizations such as the State University of New York and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The order also calls for state agencies to implement energy efficient practices, increase purchases of energy efficient products, and follow green building standards for new construction and renovation projects.
