In the Nation’s suburban areas, the number of persons arrested decreased 0.5 percent in 2007 compared with the 2006 figure.
The number of persons arrested for violent crime decreased 1.5 percent, but the number of those arrested for property crime increased 4.6 percent.
The number of persons arrested for motor vehicle theft decreased 13.5 percent in 2007 from the previous year’s figure. The number of juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested for this crime decreased 13.8 percent.
For adults, the number of persons arrested for larceny-theft in suburban areas increased 8.7 percent, and the number of juveniles arrested for this offense rose 5.9 percent.
