The 21st century began as the last one just ended with Air Force winning the overall team championship for the second consecutive year. Air Force edged out Army for the team title with a 28-second margin of victory with a combined time of 3 hours, 21 minutes, and 20 seconds. Navy and Marine Corps finished 3rd and 4th respectively.

The Armed Forces Wrestling Championships were held at Naval Air Station Whiting Field March 17-18, 2000.

In Greco-Roman Wrestling the Army wrestlers led the way with four individual champions followed by the Marines with two and Air Force with two. The Army continued to dominate in the freestyle competition with seven individual champions thereby winning the overall team championship.

The Armed Forces Women's Basketball Championships were held at Randolph AFB, TX April 8-12, 2000. The Army women’s basketball team won all six of its games in dominating style to capture the Championship for the ninth year in a row.

MCB Camp Lejeune, NC was the site of the 2000 Armed Forces Volleyball Championships on May 14-22. The results are as follows:

More than 80 competitors completed the grueling 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike ride and 10-K run as the Army took the team, men’s and women’s title in the 2000 Armed Forces Triathlon Championship at Fort Eustis, Va., June 3.

The Air Force women's 2-1 record against the Army proved the winning edge in the 2000 Armed Forces Women's Softball Championship Aug. 1-3 at Sportsplex USA in Poway, Calif. Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., played tournament host. The four teams of service all-stars played each other once a day, every team playing three games a day.

The 2000 Armed Forces Golf Championship was held at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs on August 12-18, 2000.

The Marine Corps Men’s Softball team overwhelmed the other services at the 2000 Armed Forces Softball Championship, held August 23-25 at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, CA.

The Army Women’s Soccer Team was a fierce fighting force as they marched into the 2000 Armed Forces Women’s Soccer Championship held at Fort Eustis, VA September 9-16, 2000.

Friday the 13th turned out to be a "lucky" day for the Army rugby team, as they conquered Air Force 38-12, and won the first Armed Forces Rugby Championship, which was held at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida.

Richard Cochrane, a 27 year-old member of the U.S. Navy, was the overall winner of the 25th Marine Corps Marathon, finishing with a time of 2:25:50. The marathon celebrated its Silver Anniversary, October 22, with a record number of runners, Marines, volunteers and spectators converging on the nation's capital to participate in what's known as the "People's Marathon." The Air Force Men’s Soccer team struck fast and furiously at the 2000 Armed Forces Men’s Soccer Championships (October 14-21, 2000 - Fort Eustis, VA) and took home the gold.

DoD's top basketball talent exchanged combat boots for court shoes in Starlifter Arena at Charleston Air Force Base as the Air Force unseated the defending champion Marines 71-59 in the 2000 Armed Forces Basketball Tournament.
