X8-C September - December 2007 Schedule

rainbow line

as of August 16 2007

PRT members who wish to schedule beam time should begin by consulting this table and finding blocks of time marked with A or R in the right-hand column. Blocks marked with an A may be requested at any time; rapid-access blocks marked with R cannot be requested until 2 weeks in advance. Once you have identified a suitable block of time, send e-mail to the X8-C schedulers at X8C-schedule@x8c.nsls.bnl.gov . Scheduling is handled by Lynne Howell; please do not send schedule requests to her individually or you risk your request being filled out of order. Usually we will respond to you within the day.

General users should follow the NSLS rocedures to request beam time . They will be contacted by the schedulers upon assignment of time by the Light Source.

Notes and Key to Table

O
2.8 GeV operations. (The older 2.5 GeV mode of the NSLS is no longer standard.)
S
Studies. Often usable beam is available between midnight and 0800. If your beam time precedes studies time, you should plan on staying to take advantage of this.
M
Maintenance, no beam.
E
Equipment Conditioning, no beam.
C
Machine Conditioning, no beam.
B
Beam Observations for Users (Orbit verification)
H
Holiday, no beam.
I
Interlock checks, no beam.
T or SB
Template shift or singe bunch mode. Other users may request (and about 50% of the time actually do request) a funny-bunch mode of ring operation that is usually not useful for protein crystallography. These periods may also be used for emergency ring access between 0600 and 0900, if requested. Note that blocks of time that include these periods do not generally count them in the time charged to your institution.
A
Available time. PRT members may request this time.
R
Rapid access time. Schedule requests may be made no more than than 14 days in advance. If no requests were received by 7 days in advance, the time can be scheduled by a group with an adjacent block of time, with priority given to the group that goes before.
*
C* Machine Conditioning/Operations. If conditioning is completed, there will be operations.
P
PRT overhead time for beamline testing and configuration. No data collection time available.
#
Unconfirmed.
V
Tentative schedule: PRT with quota may still request time.

Blocks of beam time begin at noon unless otherwise specified. For blocks of beam time that are followed by other users, beam time ends at 11:00 am. Time between 11:00 and 12:00 is reserved for beamline testing, alignment, spindle-beam displacement check, energy calibration, and training of the next group.
