On November 28, 1990, Congress created the Gila Box, one of only two RNCA's in the nation. Four perennial waterways - the Gila River, Bonita Creek, Eagle Creek, and the San Francisco River - are the lifeblood of this remarkable place. Not only does the RNCA hold one of the most significant riparian zones in the southwest, it offers tremendous recreational opportunities.
