Operation FALCON 2008 Rounds Up Dozens of Local Arrests

 

Madison, WI – Following a four-year tradition of success in its national efforts, the U.S. Marshals Service locally conducted another successful Operation FALCON (Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally) from June 16 – June 21. Operation FALCON is a nationwide law enforcement effort.

Operational FALCON – Madison combined the collective efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies in one of the state’s largest fugitive initiatives. Over the course of the week long operation, Deputy U.S. Marshals, teamed with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, arrested 36 fugitives and cleared 67 warrants. 1 firearm was also seized.

On June 18, William Sims was arrested in Madison by one of the FALCON teams. On May 12, Sims allegedly attempted to strangle his ex-wife. The victim reported that Sims had attempted to strangle her on 5 separate occasions and had threatened to injure her if she reported this to police. Sims remained a fugitive until June 18 when FALCON team members developed information on Sims’ location, responded and took him safely into custody. Sims was arrested for 5 counts of strangulation, 1 ct. substantial battery, 1 ct. threaten to injure, all felonies, and 1 ct. misdemeanor criminal damage to property. Sims is currently being held on $2500.00 cash bond at the Dane County Jail in Madison, Wisconsin

Operation FALCON consisted of 23 Law Enforcement Officers making up 5 separate arrest teams working throughout the 7 day period. Agencies contributing to Operation FALCON- Madison were the Columbia County Sheriffs, Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Madison Police Department, Department of Homeland Security, ICE, DeForest Police Department, Beloit Police Department, Sun Prairie Police Department, Town of Madison Police Department, Verona Police Department, Rock County Sheriff Department, Middleton Police Department and Dane County Sheriff Department.

Since its inception in 2005, Operation FALCON has made over 36,500 arrests and cleared over 45,300 warrants. It continues to be the largest and most successful fugitive apprehension effort in the U.S. Marshals history.
