Henry
S. Barnard: In the work
of the Engraving Division, the work of three skillful hands
has been closed by death since the date of my last report. Henry
S. Barnard, an engraver of special talent in the branch of delineation
known as “sanding” on charts, died, after a short
illness, at the age of sixty years, on the 23rd of September,
1874. As a worthy and industrious man, Mr. Barnard fulfilled
the expectations which attended his call to the Engraving Division
in April, 1856.
