Lamborn Supports “Tax Increase Prevention Act”

Washington, Jun 14, 2007 -

Rep. Lamborn (Colorado Springs) is an original co-sponsor of the Tax Increase Prevention act introduced today. The legislation seeks to make permanent the tax relief that was passed in 2001 and 2003.

“Americans are smart and industrious people who manage their money far better than the federal government does,” stated Rep. Lamborn. “When we let hardworking citizens take home more of their income, the American economy grows. In defiance of this fact, the Democrats are attempting to raise taxes and allow the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire-- a $400 billion tax increase. We will not tolerate such fiscal irresponsibility.”

According to recent studies, the Democrat tax plan would result in a $3000 tax increase for the average American, $500 tax increase per child, and a 13% tax hike for small businesses.

“I cannot understand why my colleagues across the aisle would rather align themselves with an overspending government than with the American taxpayers who elected them,” said Rep. Lamborn. “It is unacceptable that the Democrats are attempting to pay for unnecessary spending by penalizing American families and businesses.”

This legislation, proposed by Rep. Tim Walberg (Jackson, Michigan), is in accordance with the Taxpayers Bill of Rights, another fiscally responsible initiative that Rep. Lamborn also strongly supports.
