Abstract:

This article describes the difficulty of monitoring a mobile and widely distributed population like the piping plover. In some areas numbers have increased since the first International Census in 1991, but in other areas, like the Great Plains and Canadian Prairie, numbers may be reduced due to a dramatic shift in water conditions.
