Dr. Michael Walsh currently serves as the Group Leader for the biotechnology staff of the Chemistry and Life Science Office. As Group Leader, Dr. Walsh is responsible for managing outreach activities and supervising project managers assigned to biotechnology projects.

Dr. Walsh has served as a project manager (business specialists) for more than 30 ATP biotechnology projects dealing with developments in DNA diagnostic tools, tissue engineering, and general biotechnology. Dr. Walsh was chairman of ATP's 2000 Biotechnology Source Evaluation Board (SEB.) This 20-member board provides the peer review and recommendations for biotechnology proposals submitted to ATP's 2000 General Competition. Dr. Walsh also served on several other SEBs (1997 Information Infrastructure for Healthcare, 1997 Tissue Engineering, 1998 Tools for DNA Diagnostics, and 1999 Biotechnology) and managed ATP's business review process (1997 and 1998.)

Prior to joining the ATP in 1997 as an industry consultant, Dr. Walsh was a private industry consultant and taught economics as an adjunct professor at Loyola College and the United States Naval Academy. Dr. Walsh obtained his B.A and M.A. degrees in economics from Clemson University and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Georgia. His expertise includes appraising, corporate finance, and money and capital markets.
