View of Venus Surface
The
opaque veil of Venus was lifted by JPL's Magellan spacecraft during
its 1990-1994 orbital mission. Venus glitters brightly in the
night sky, but its dense cloud cover obscures the surface. The
imaging radar on board Magellan penetrated the sulphuric-acid
clouds. This three-dimensional perspective view shows the volcanoes
Gula Mons (right) and Sif Mons (left). |
