The workarounds for this problem are: 1. Set JAVA_HOME environment variable to the location where java 1.4 is stored and then run install.bat. 2. Instead of pressing "Enter" after the message: 'else' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Retype again the location where Java is stored. Follow the rest. P.S. When extracting the zip files, select a directory that its absolute path DOES NOT contain any space (i.e Program Files), otherwise the execution of scishare.bat will fail. This is because java can not find the classpath if there is a space. Thanks, Artur.. This new release has significant improvements and also some bugs from the older versions have been fixed. We encourage our users to upgrade Scishare to the new version. Here is a list of the bugs that have been fixed and the new features added: _Bugs Fixed:_ - Some previous problems in the intergroup communications have been solved. - The bug #11 from previous versions is fixed. The bug was generated if the user tried to change stable storage root on Windows switching form one drive to another (i.e. C:\ to D:\), moving security device folder will fail. - The bug #13 has been fixed. This was regarding to metadata sharing services that failed occasionally. - The bug #14 has been fixed. Before, when a new item was added, the policies always default to the same value. Now they default to the policies assigned to the most recently added item. _*New Features:*_ - The installations of both binary and source versions goes through a graphical user interface GUI. This will generate the scishare script (under the bin directory) to run Scishare application. - Pseudo User now has a better representation. It shows the user name as a part of user identity. - There is a notification message to the user if for some reason one of the services (metadata/data sharing) fails while they are running. - We have improved the http response protocol regarding to transfering the files. If for some reason, the user fails to transfer a file he/she will get a better information showing what was the reason for that failure. - The user can convert an older version of Scishare to the new one. - The different color schemes representing trusted, untrusted and pseudo users are now applied to upload and transfer components of the application. - The user can save the state of the application at runtime through File->Save menu item. There are still some issues with Scishare that we're currently working on: 1. If the user tries to transfer a file of size 0 the application will hang and he/she must restart Scishare where some data may be lost. 2. Occasionally, when searching, the search results will be duplicated and displayed as folders. 3. We're working to have full functionality on distributed groups which will be on the next release. Please, send us your comments. You can also report problems from Scishare to http://dsd.lbl.gov/bugzilla Thanks, Artur.. We've found out that IE, by default, saves the file as scishare-0.9.3.1-src.zip instead of scishare-0.9.3.1-src.jar. Unzipping that file produces the directory structure you have. If this is the case please follow these steps: 0) remove the contents of the scishare directory (optional) 1) rename scishare-0.9.3.1-src.zip to scishare-0.9.3.1-src.jar 2) execute the jar file (this will launch the scishare installer) Please let us know if this works. Verify that "Share out metadata" and "Share out data" are checked. (Also note the port numbers, i.e. "Metadata Server Port" (MSP) and "Data Server Port" (DSP) values) 2) Verify that you are not running a firewall that blocks traffic to the MSP and DSP on that machine. The computer I was using suffered from: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4665037 It was reporting it's ip as 127.0.0.1, the loopback address. The multicast address worked, that's why the searches were visible on each computer. Moved to a different computer and the transmission started. However, twice transmission of a 100MB files stopped (at about 90%) with "Internal Error". On restart the transmission continued to completion. This took about 4-5 minutes. Comparitively, an scp of the same file took about 11 seconds. Also, thanks for the link to the Java bug report. We will look into the "Internal Error" problem. If you have any scishare log files (scishare.log*) from the machine that exhibited the error - these should be in ~/.SCISHARE/ - they may help us resolve this issue faster. If you decide to send those files, please send them directly to me. We aware of the efficiency problem when transferring files. We will have it resolved in the next release. I successfully installed scishare and a CA server-EJBCA. I generated many p12 and pem files from the CA server in order to use them in scishare. I insert p12 files through "User Identity Mananger", and pem files through "Manage CAs", then I share some files with trusted meta policy and trusted data policy. I think after this, I can access these files through the scishare on another computer with a valid CA. But I failed. I have done many experiments to find the reasons, and finally I can't. So I have to ask for help. Could anybody offer me some helps? Thank you very much. ruiwang 2006-08-29 --=====003_Dragon262580623085_===== Content-Type: text/html; charset="gb2312" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
