It is more versatile in that it provides a true copy eliminating the need for. proofreading, and it.can be used to reproduce any type of drawings chart or map reduced to normal paper size. Furthermore, amendments can be inserted by simply taking a picture of the original bill with the new or additional language blended in by retyping the necessary lines on a separate piece of paper and inserting them with adhesive tape. The processed master generally results in producing an end-pro- • duct comparable to the original. ¦ ' ¦ ; $ The new. equipment will be installed prior to the opening of • the session and the representatives of the installing firms will, be on hand to train the operators and oversee the operation of the equipment when the legislature convenes. Use of this new process will still necessitate conformity to a uniform method of preparing bills for introduction and mass duplication. In most'cases, the clerical staff will not have to retype the bill as introduced to have it conform to- the standard requirements as to title, use of numbered paper, spacing, and other style provisions. Presumably-the bill will be'introduced in, prb-per form and its official number inserted thereon, and the photographic process can be used without need for retyping. ^/3 If the-bill is in need of adjustment to conform to style requirements, it can be typed directly onto a multilith master for duplicating purposes . ' ¦ '".¦"¦¦. • 2. THE COUNCIL RECOMMENDS THAT THE DUPLICATING "SECTION FUNCTION AS A CENTRALIZED OPERATION UNDER THE JOINT SUPERVISION OF " BOTH HOUSES THROUGH THE CHIEF CLERK AND SENATE SECRETARY. The equipment for the duplicating and assembly activity has been installed in one room for the joint use of both houses. Adjacent to this room is the centralized distribution and mail room which will also serve both houses. These rooms will be in the legislative wing of the building but away from the main corridor connecting the two chambers. ¦• . The Chief*.Clerk and Secretary of the Senate are to coordinate their needs and make their arrangements for duplicating service through the chief operator in the duplicating section. Use of the fast photographic process would require the reference of the- original copy to the duplicating section for temporary use with a carbon going to the committee until mass production is accomplished.
