GOES-11 Status

GOES-L was officially renamed to GOES-11 today, May 11, 2000, following a successful Apogee Adjust Maneuver (AAM) conducted at 9:34 AM EDT. The AAM consisted of two burns totaling 4 minutes, 45 seconds. All spacecraft parameters remained well within limits throughout the entire maneuver. This was the final firing of the apogee motor thruster which will be permanently isolated following the final solar array deployment on May 12. A series of trim maneuvers will be performed in the upcoming week to circularize the orbit using the 5 lb station keeping thrusters. Remaining significant events for GOES-11 are as follows:

- Magnetometer boom and final solar array deployment May 12.
- Momentum wheel turn-on and solar sail deployment May 14-15.
- The first official image is scheduled for May 17 at 1900Z.

GOES-11 will be positioned at 104 degrees west longitude for on-orbit verification and performance testing through August 13. The satellite will then be placed in storage mode as an immediate backup for GOES East or West. The spacecraft will be declared operational following scheduled handover to NOAA on August 16.
