Safety Day In Kansas City's Northland

Kansas City, MO -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is participating with Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse during its Safety Day at the company's Northland store, located at the intersection if Interstate 29 and Barry Road on Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Events during the day will focus on what parents can do to make their homes safe from floods, fire, severe weather and tornadoes. FEMA will have its scale model Safe Rooms on hand depicting the different types of construction options available. Other displays will promote severe weather awareness and highlight the value of NOAA Weather Radios as a way to keep informed as bad weather develops.
FEMA has seen a great need for individual families to ensure that their personal safety is adequate through the recent severe storm season and other disasters around the county. In doing so, families can guard themselves by taking simple mitigation measures to reduce the likelihood of injury and damage to their homes.
FEMA Region VII Acting Regional Director Art Freeman said it's important for homeowners to think about safety not just during severe weather season but also throughout the year.
"Home safety is something we must always keep in mind no matter the season," Freeman said. "This is especially true if there are children in the home."
