Description/Abstract A new service which offers significant price, safety, and selectivity advantages over conventional means of treating well-bore damage has been introduced by Sonics International, Inc.^ Significantly, the low cost of the service makes it economically practical in stripper wells and in other wells with production rates which would not support the economics of other types of treatment.^ The new service uses sonic shock waves generated downhole to pulverize and remove scale, and for treatment of other well-bore damage.^ It is operated from what is otherwise a conventional electric wire-line field unit.^ Completion types treated included 5-in. and 7-in. perforated casing, slotted liners, open holes, and even shot holes with diameters of up to 24 in.^ Scales and other damage encountered have included calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, mud, and several complex cases.
