Description/Abstract A photometric method was worked out for determining Nb by means of xylenol orange in the presence of tantaric acid. The optimum conditions for the deterrnination are: pH 2 to 3, and the Nb : tartaric acid ratio equal to 1:30. The composition of the niobium--xylenol orange complex is Nb(XO)/sub 2/. The molar extinction coefficient of the compound is 20000. (auth)
