Please compensate domestic partners

If we're bending the law and giving to illegal aliens (who are actually committing a crime, as are their employers) then let's bend a bit on deciding morality. We're giving money to fetuses (who are not people under my state's laws). I don't dispute the worthiness of these victims. Compassion dictates that we move outside of the law in a time like this. (Obviously, domestic partners need to show shared residence but our company requires some proof of financial interweaving as well.)

A man like   is a hero, regardless of his sexual orientation. If he's got a domestic partner, compensate the man. Same for the   on the   flight. Let's not break the unity Americans now feel with our age-old bane of discrimination.

I've been happily married for 10 years, with two little boys, run a successful advertising agency (I was the SBA's California Small Businessperson of the Year in 2001), and pay a small fortune in taxes every year (helping to fund the fund).

It breaks my heart that at a time like this we want to score political points deciding whose worthwhile in America.

Like it or not, some people who died on 9/11 were gay, and some were illegal aliens, some might have been alcoholics, drug users, smokers, had criminal records, were chronic speeders, abusive parents...let's just stop trying to break them down, deciding their worthiness of largess.

Compensate their loved ones, whoever they were, whatever their flaws, whether they'd had the benefit of marriage available in their state.

State laws used to permit slavery and a myriad of other morally repugnant stances. Let's not assume the law today will prove to be the ideal moral guide in exercising compassion that will be remembered.

You have a chance, not to make a political statement, but to act with compassion. Please take that opportunity to permit domestic partners of any sex to qualify for family benefits.

Thank you,
