Major activities included wheat planting, and row crop and silage harvesting. The northeast corner of the State received thunderstorms with amounts over 9 inches in localized areas. Topsoil moisture was rated 6 percent very short, 36 percent short, 55 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 12 percent very short, 32 percent short, and 56 percent adequate. Field Crop Report: Ninety-six percent of the corn is mature, a point ahead of last year but the same as the 5-year average. Fifty-five percent of the corn has been harvested, 6 points ahead of last year but 11 points behind the 5- year average. Corn condition is rated 4 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Eighty-three percent of the soybeans are dropping leaves, compared to 84 percent last year and 87 percent for the 5-year average. Twenty percent of the soybeans have been harvested, compared to 33 percent last year and 32 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated 2 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Ninety-seven percent of the sorghum is in the coloring stage, 5 points ahead of last year and 1 point ahead of the 5-year average. Sixty-two percent of the sorghum is mature, compared to 52 percent last year and 71 percent for the 5-year average. Twenty-two percent of the sorghum has been harvested, compared to 17 percent last year and 38 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 39 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Fifty-one percent of the cotton is in the bolls open stage, 6 points ahead of last year and 2 points ahead of the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Fifty-five percent of the wheat has been planted, 6 points ahead of last year and 5 points ahead of the 5-year average. Twenty-five percent of the wheat is emerged, 3 points ahead of last year and 4 points ahead of the 5-year average. Ninety-six percent of the sunflowers are in the ray flowers dry stage, compared to 90 percent last year and 97 percent for the 5-year average. Eighty-six percent of the sunflowers are in the bracts yellow stage, compared to 71 percent last year and 91 percent for the 5-year average. Fifty percent of the sunflowers are in the mature dry down stage, compared to 36 percent last year and 60 percent for the 5-year average. Fifteen percent of the sunflowers have been harvested, compared to 11 percent last year and 27 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated at 1 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Ninety percent of the fourth cutting alfalfa has been harvested, compared with 89 percent last year and 79 percent for the 5-year average. Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions are rated 8 percent very poor, 18 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 33 percent good, and 3 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies are rated 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies are rated 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Stock water supplies are rated 4 percent very short, 12 percent short, and 84 percent adequate.
