Our library has more than just books! We have Iggy and Gumby (two iguanas), Gotcha (a chameleon), and Tootsie (a turtle). Normally, it is quiet here except for activities by our students but occasionally a loud rumble comes from the 8 foot cage in the corner of our LLC-it's only Iggy or Gumby falling from the upper branches of their cage.

The Sub

Reviewed by Dale, Grade 4

The Sub is about two boys whose teacher is sick. So they have a sub and they suggest switching seats. As they do, they have a test, but one is good at science and the other is not. That means one boy will have a great grade and the other won't. While in the middle of school the sub gets curious. She has her eyes on them for the rest of the day. At the end she calls the two boys to her desk. She asks the boys what is going on. "You are playing around, aren't you?" The two boys did not get in trouble. I recommend this book because it is funny.

About the Man Who Loved Clowns

Reviewed by Jessi, Grade 6

I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read! It is certainly funny but it gets into some serious issues, although it is a fiction book.

A girl named Delrita Jenson has to live through Junior High being invisible because of her uncle Punky. Her uncle has what is known as Down's Syndrome. Therefore, his brain doesn't function like it is supposed to!

Then Delrita meets a friend named named Avanelle. Delrita gets to know her and becomes her friend. They get in a fight and something else happens that makes her life empty and miserable. If you want to find out what that is, then you should read this book.

Marty Preston loves his little beagle, Shiloh, the one that he rescued from Judd, the owner, who abuses all of his dogs with kicks and curses. Marty gives Shiloh a lot of love but is again faced with threats from Judd, who wants his dog back.

It is hunting season and Judd is once again hunting on the Preston property, ignoring that Mr. Preston had told him to stay away. One night, much after midnight, Marty wakes up to hear a "loud, scary noise that if you are sound asleep when you hear it, you think your heart is going to stop. All you know is you hear something--a loud bang and then a thump and another and another. Then, the dog sound, a yipping, yelping dog noise!" It's Shiloh!

Marty learns a lot about human nature. You, too, can learn about the pain one feels when trying to befriend someone whose insides are full of hate and anger. Marty's persistence is obvious when he keeps trying to help Judd.

This is a MUST READ book but, you should read Shiloh (1992 Newbery Medal) first and then read this sequel.
