for Twayne Publishers. Archdeacon is also the general editor of "The Immigrant
Experience" (CD-ROM, Primary Source Media, 1997). The
Foreign Immigrant in New York City. Excellent site for articles written
during the period by the major proponents of reform during the time (Riis included).
Covers such topics as child labor, tenement conditions, and immigrant life in
the city, with especial relevance to Russian Jews. Migration

listing of institutions, groups, organizations, etc. that conduct research,

Collection of Photographs Stereographic images of immigrants and immigration

Angel
Island Immigration Station Foundation. Angel Island is sometimes referred
to as the Ellis Island of the Pacific Coast, and was a primary landing point for
Chinese Immigrants. This site includes poems carved on the island barrack walls
and other information on the experience of immigrants at the station. Chinese

A site supporting the award winning Who Built America project, highlighting
the 1909 shirtwaist workers' strike through a fictional story of two working
girls from Eastern Europe. Includes primary sources online. Immigration
History Research Center Located at University of Minnesota. Resource for data
on U.S. immigration and ethnic history. Can look up listings, but the collection
is not online. Especially useful is their "Related Sites" link. The
Lower East Side Tenement Museum. An interactive exhibit featuring the museum's
collection. The
Poles of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. An article on turn of the
century immigration to Pittsburgh, including statistics, from the Polish Genealogical
Society. German
Immigration Links. From an enthusiast's site entitled "German Americana." Teaching
units on Germany. Including one on German immigration, from Indiana University.

American Jewish Historical Society. Good site for connections to other locations
on Jewish history. Check out the superb bibliography of "essential readings" on
the Jewish people in America. Eastern
European Jewish resources. Khazaria Center site that lists by region various
sites on Jewish history, culture, archaeology - focused on Russia and Turkey.

of the Jews in Russia What daily life was like in the shtetl, the little
Jewish town. This site has an excellent text history and photographs of people,
occupations, clothing, habitations. Jewish
Genealogical Research. Well organized site on how to conduct genealogical
research and sources of passenger lists. Jewish-American
History on the Web Features "Jews in the Civil War" and "Jews
in the Wild West," offering an alternative to New York City focused sites. The
Jewish Museum (New York). Excellent site for information on Jewish life
in America, New York in particular. Southwest
Jewish Archives. History, life, and culture of Jewish pioneers who settled
in Southwest America. Includes photos and biographical information.
Scandinavian
Immigration. Site created by 5th graders--covers influences and immigration
of Scandinavian people. Good basic site. Swedish
emigration. Overview of history of Swedish emigration to the U.S. along
with links to other sites. Swedish
genealogy. List of sites to search for names, ancestors.
