Mexico City, July 18, 2005 — “Thanks to excellent cooperation from Mexico’s Federal Investigations Agency and the hard work of the FBI, two men wanted for the murder of a Mexican national will be held accountable for their crimes in Chicago. The extradition of Jose and Victor Padilla is a wake-up call to criminals who foolishly believe they can escape justice in the United States and live a normal life abroad.” U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza
The U.S. Embassy announced today that Mexican authorities have extradited Jose Ismael and Victor Hugo Padilla. The Padilla brothers will arrive in the United States today. Both men are wanted for the murder of Mexican national Antonio Aguila in late 2000, and for fleeing the United States while on bail that same year. Agents of Mexico’s Federal Investigations Agency arrested them in Guadalajara on January 14, 2005. Their capture again demonstrates that the United States and Mexico are partners in a concerted campaign to take criminals to account for the crimes they commit.
