A large private collection of coins that had been kept in the vaults of Uruguay's Banco de la Republica for over 50 years is now on display at the Presidency's Library in Edificio Libertad.

Unveiled August 23, 2005 at Banco de la Republica’s Museos del Gaucho y de la Moneda, the collection shows how the great trends of U.S. history are reflected in the currency from the growing independence of the colonies, to the competing state currencies of the new nation, to the celebration of a more perfect union after the Constitutional Convention and finally the trauma of the civil war. The collection, now property of Museos del Gaucho y de la Moneda, will be on display at Edificio Libertad till October 28, and afterwards it is scheduled to visit several cities in the interior including the resort town of Punta del Este where it will be displayed throughout the tourist season.
