Patricia Kay Puckett, a native of Ardmore, Ala., and an employee of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., has been recognized by NASA as an outstanding achiever.

Puckett, an office automation assistant in the Space Optics Manufacturing and Technology Directorate at the Marshall Center, was honored recently with a Women's Equality Day award. The honor is presented annually to exceptional federal employees in administrative, clerical, professional and supervisory capacities.

Puckett began her professional career at the Marshall Center in 1993 as a participant in Marshall’s Co-op Program, serving in the Computers and Data Management Division within the Astrionics Laboratory of the Engineering Directorate.

In 1995, Puckett became a full-time management support assistant for the Space Optics Manufacturing and Technology Directorate at the Marshall Center. In 2000, she was promoted to her current position, where she supports organizational management by handling directorate projects, visitor coordination and safety requirement tracking, among other duties. She also serves as the assistant building manager.

"I am proud to be honored with this achievement award from Marshall," said Puckett. "I am especially thankful to have a job that I enjoy going to each day."

Prior to joining NASA, Puckett worked at Colonial Industry Sewing Factory in Ardmore, Tenn., for 18 years.

Puckett earned an associate degree in secretarial technology in 1995 from J.F. Drake State Technical College in Huntsville. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Eagle Scout Committee, former Cubmaster for Boy Scouts of America and former Boy Scout District Commissioner for parts of northeastern Alabama.

The Women's Equality Day awards are presented by the Combined Women's Federal Programs. The Marshall Center's Women's Program annually joins with other local federal agencies to recognize the work of these individuals, and to celebrate Women's Equality Day and the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

Puckett’s husband Rayborn also is a native of Ardmore. They have one son, Timothy Sean Puckett of Deep Gap, N.C.
