Dr. Povinelli Recognized by Interagency Committee

The Joint Army/Navy/NASA/Air Force (JANNAF) Interagency Propulsion Committee presented the "Outstanding Sustained Contributions and Leadership in Air-Breathing Propulsion" award to Dr. Louis Povinelli. The Executive Committee Chairman of the Air-Breathing Executive Committee presented the award, consisting of a letter of citation and a plaque, during the JANNAF Conference in San Diego in December. Povinelli has served as the Glenn member of the Executive Committee and is the co-chair of the Advanced Propulsion Cycle Subcommittee. He has presented technical papers at the annual conferences, as well as served as session organizer and chairman over the past 15 years. Povinelli was selected for his sustained contributions to propulsion research for his technical expertise and leadership in the development of advanced aircraft propulsion, with particular emphasis on his understanding of fluid dynamics and combustion. Povinelli is a member of the NASA Senior Scientific and Professional Corps and serves as the Project Scientist for NASA Supersonics Project.

Dr. DellaCorte Receives STLE Honor

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) has awarded Dr. Christopher DellaCorte, Tribology and Surface Science Branch, with the STLE P.M. Ku Award. Established in 1978, the P.M. Ku Award is given annually to the member who most typifies the dedicated spirit and hardworking attitude of P.M. Ku, a deceased member who worked tirelessly in the background for the benefit of the Society. This award recognizes outstanding and selfless achievement on behalf of STLE.

DePauw Named Red Cross Volunteer Hero

Michael DePauw, R&D Labs Technical Branch, was among 13 "local heroes" honored as members of the American Red Cross, Greater Cleveland Chapter's Hero Class of 2006 during an awards presentation and luncheon. DePauw received the Volunteer Hero award for his efforts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Community Relations Division to locate and assist nearly 300 Hurricane Katrina victims in Alabama and along the coastal areas of Mississippi. DePauw was nominated by his branch chief, Benjamin Rodriquez, and selected by a panel of community and civic leaders on behalf of the Red Cross.

Smith Named Cubmaster of the Year

Marvin Smith, a photographer in the Imaging Technology Center, Logistics and Technical Information Division/RSIS, has received the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), Great Frontier District, Cubmaster of the Year Award. Smith has volunteered as a leader in Cub Scout Pack 135 at St. Mary's Church in Elyria for seven years, five of those years as Cubmaster. The BSA Great Frontier District includes all of Lorain County's scouting units. Three of Smith's four children have been Cub Scouts in Pack 135.
