NASA ASTRONAUT FEATURED IN INTERNATIONAL
PARADE
NASA Astronaut Marcos Pontes will participate in the International
Carnival Parade in downtown Houston tomorrow at 1 p.m. The parade is
one of several events scheduled for the Houston International
Festival, Spotlighting Brazil and will be broadcast live on KTRK
(ABC) Channel 13.
Originally from Bauru, San Paulo, Brazil, Pontes was selected as a
Mission Specialist Candidate in August 1998. He has completed
training and will perform technical assignments within the Astronaut
Office until he is assigned to a space flight.
Pontes will be available for autographs after the parade, from 2 to 4
p.m., at the NASA-Johnson Space Center exhibit booth in the
DeMontrond Sport City at Sabine and Allen Parkway. Also at the booth
signing autographs from 2 to 4 p.m. April 9 will be Mission
Specialist Dr. Charlie Camarda, and Mission Specialist Dr. Nick
Patrick on April 15.
