Annotation: RESULTS OF SURVEYS OF THREE CALIFORNIA POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND QUESTIONNAIRES SENT TO CENTRAL ALARM COMPANIES, ALARM USERS, AND NON-USERS.
Abstract: THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS STUDY WERE TO ASSESS THE ROLE OF ALARM SYSTEMS IN THE REDUCTION OF BURGLARY, ROBBERY, AND RELATED CRIMES AND TO DEVELOP COST-EFFECTIVE ALARM SYSTEMS WITH MINIMUM FALSE ALARM AND FAILURE RATE. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THESE OBJECTIVES, A LARGE AMOUNT OF DATA WAS OBTAINED AND ANALYZED PERTAINING TO THE THREAT, COMMERCIAL SECURITY EQUIPMENT, AND THE USER. THIS VOLUME CONTAINS TABLES OF THE DATA GATHERED AS WELL AS COPIES OF THE QUESTIONNAIRES THAT WERE SENT TO CENTRAL ALARM COMPANIES, ALARM USERS AND NON-USERS. INCLUDED ARE THE RESULTS OF SURVEYS OF THE SAN FRANCISCO, SAN JOSE, AND SANTA CLARA POLICE DEPARTMENTS. THE DATA, REGARDING ROBBERIES AND BURGLARIES AS A FUNCTION OF LOCATION AND INCOME LEVEL, COVER SUCH ITEMS AS TYPE OF STRUCTURE, POINT OF ENTRY, METHOD OF ENTRY, INSTRUMENTS USED, PROPERTY STOLEN, POSSIBLE MOTIVE, LOCATION OF VICTIM, ALARM TYPE, AND METHOD OF POLICE NOTIFICATION.
