1. Meeting Agenda and Program
An overview of the SESAPS 2004 meeting agenda can be viewed online or downloaded. 2. Topics SESAPS meetings cover a wide range of topics in physics.
For SESAPS 2004, the
topics include (but are not restricted to):
A detailed program of all the oral presentations
can be found at the APS meetings website. It is also possible to
search the program by author name or session name.
See the meeting corrigenda for the latest
changes, corrections, additions and withdraws after the APS Bulletins (which
you will receive a copy at the meeting) were printed.
3. Oral Presentations For most topics listed above, there
will be an invited session and
a contributed session. The invited speakers are determined
by the meeting's program committee,
and contributed speakers are those
who submit their abstracts by the August 10, 2004,
deadline.
Each contributed speaker
will be alotted 10 minutes for his/her talk. All the invited sessions will take place
in the auditorium at
the Pollard Center, and contributed sessions will be held in the Dogwood, Iris or Mockingbird rooms (please see the floor plan of the conference center for locations of these rooms). All meeting rooms will be equipped with both overhead projectors and
computer based
LCD projectors. The LCD projector in each meeting room will be connected to
a computer, which has the latest version of Microsoft Power Point and Acrobat Reader 6.0 installed. To ensure smooth transitions between talks, speakers are strongly encouraged to use the meeting facility's computers instead of their own laptops for presentations. Presentation files on a CD
or a flash memory drive (that can be plugged in to the computer's USB port) are readily accepted. However, all speakers must present their CD's or flash memory drives to corresponding session chairs or meeting-room computer managers 30 minutes before the sessions start. If you cannot find your session chair or room computer manager, contact the secretaries at the registration desk. If you must use your own computer for presentation, we ask that you
connect your laptop computer to the VGA switch box in the meeting
room well before the session starts, so that the transition time
between speakers is minimized.
Speakers should be aware that the time used to connect/boot computers or fix software
problems, etc. will be counted against their allotted speaking time.
4. Posters In addition to invited and contributed oral presentations, poster
contributions are also accepted.
Those who wish to present only a poster at the meeting must
submit their abstracts by
September 10 and should
register
for the meeting. Poster presenters should have their posters ready to be mounted before the meeting. The meeting site will not provide printing facilites. Posters should fit into the size of a 30" X 40" rectangle in either landscape or portrait orientation. Poster boards (30" X 40") will be provided by the meeting. Poster presenters are expected to mount their own posters according to their ID's on Thursday, November 11.
Poster ID's are listed in the meeting program under DD and GD sessions. All posters must be dismounted by 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 12.
5. SPS sessions
The Society
of Physics Students (SPS) chapter at the
University of
Tennessee is organizing a contributed session and a poster
session for undergraduate students. These SPS sessions will be held on
Saturday, November 13. Undergraduate students are encouraged to submit
abstracts for presentation in the SPS sessions. Abstracts for the SPS
sessions should be emailed to Professor
James E. Parks at UT-Knoxville.
The deadline for SPS-session abstract submission is
October 8, 2004.
All students who present at one of the SPS sessions
are eligible for the Marsh White Award, which will be given to the
best undergraduate presenter. Undergraduate students who present at the
regular SESAPS sessions will not be eligible for this award. Undergraduate students who present
only in the SPS sessions are not
required to register for the SESAPS meeting. These students are
not eligible for the SESAPS student travel grant. The program for the SPS sessions at SESAPS 2004
is now available online.
