Identification of an abnormal beryllium lymphocyte proliferation test

Thanks to Drs Stange and Furman, ORISE-Rocky Flats for identifying these errors
1) Throughout the paper all "logs" are base e, i.e. Ln(x) and log(x) mean the same thing /x | 1 log(x) = | -- dt for x in <0, +infinity> = Ln(x) , / 1 t the "natural logarithm" as usually defined in mathematics. Unfortunately, none of the authors, reviewers, or editors noticed this inconsistency. In the pre-computer days ( say < 1960) when tables were used to find "logs", base 10 was used as a matter of computation convenience. The most flagrant inconsistency occurs in Step 5 of Sec 2.2, i.e. SLsi = Ln(SI)/SE[log(SI)] should be SLsi = Ln(SI)/SE[Ln(SI)] In some figures LN(M,S) is used to represent the log normal distribution with location parameter M and scale parameter S. 2) On page 50 Change: "... in Serum 3040083 is 48/56 or 85.7% 1- and the specificity (false positive rate) is 992/1024 or 96.9%" To: "... in Serum 3040083 is 48/56 or 85.7% and the specificity (1 - false positive rate) is 992/1024 or 96.9%" 3) Exhibit A4 Pages 54-55 should appear as Toxicology Feb 2003, Pages 54-55 Exhibit A4

Erratum Toxicology 188 (2003) 335-335 The above correction in Toxicology

Additional corrections on Mar 30 2006

  1. In Appendix A page 53 the lst line of step 4
    Change 0.3183*sqrt(1.571 x 0.25) to 0.3183*sqrt(1.571 x (4/12) )

The result 0.230 and all other calculations are correct as far as I know.

  2. On page 54 line 8 φV should be φ2V
