On Thursday September 18, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), its implementing partner CHF International, and their Montenegrin partners will mark the conclusion of the USAID-financed Community Revitalization through Democratic Action (CRDA) program in northern Montenegro at the Community Center in Berane.
U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro Roderick W. Moore, USAID Mission Director Michael Harvey, CHF Director Chris Brown, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Branimir Vujacic, Berane Mayor Vuka Golubovic, and Bijelo Polje Mayor Tarzan Milosevic will speak at the closing ceremony.
Since 2002, CHF International in cooperation with communities, NGOs, businesses, and the local and national government has completed 637 projects worth $29.9 million in 13 northern Montenegrin municipalities.   USAID invested $15.3 million (51%) in these projects while the remaining $14.6 million (49%) came from direct investment and in-kind contributions from local stakeholders.  In its first three years the project focused on rehabilitating the community infrastructure (CRDA program) while in the latter three years the project's focus turned to economic development activities aimed at stimulating growth in the tourism and agriculture sectors (CRDA-E).
Prior to the closing event, Ambassador Moore will visit several projects funded by USAID in Berane including the Regional Health Center, the Citizen Information Bureau, the pedestrian walking street, the Local Tourism Organization, and the Polimski Museum.
Media interested in covering the closing event should be at the Community Center in Berane no later than 14:45, on Thursday September 18.
