AMENDMENT DESCRIPTION:
Amendment authorizes the Attorney General to deport criminal aliens who have been convicted of nonviolent offenses before the completion of their prison sentence in Federal or State prisons. \ As amended by the Burr amendment (A006), the above was clarified to exclude from deportation those convicted of alien smuggling.
AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
An amendment to authorize the Justice Department to deport a non-violent criminal alien before he or she has completed his or her sentence.
