Jewish Apartments and Services

 Information by State
 Print version

Jewish Apartments & Services (JAS) is an equal housing organization that is dedicated to providing safe and affordable housing and related services to older adults in order to promote independence and the highest possible quality of life. JAS whole-heartedly embodies the commandment to "honor thy mother and thy father' by providing our residents with exceptional support with compassion and dependability. JAS offers subsidized and below market-rate apartments within its Oak Park and West Bloomfield, Michigan buildings serving over 800 individuals.

JAS was awarded its first CHSP position back in 1993. Since then, our CHSP program has expanded staffing and programs to provide services in each of our buildings. These services include case management, personal care and housekeeping, transportation and weekend meals. JAS provides 3,000 hours per year in case management, 2,700 hours per year in personal care assistance, 2,300 hours per year in housekeeping services, 1,200 trips per year in the transportation program and 400 weekend meals per year.

CHSP on average serves 102 residents ranging in age from 58 to 100 years old, with an average age of 83 years old.

The benefits of our HUD sponsored CHSP program goes beyond just statistics. CHSP is a safety net for many of our seniors. Without such a program, many would end up living in nursing homes prematurely since most housing alternatives would be too costly and out of reach. CHSP services allow our residents to age in place and maintain their independence. Many of our residents live out their lives in the comfort of their own homes without the fear of having to move to a strange place late in life. Our residents' family members are relieved to know there are quality support services in place for their loved ones.

HUD has not only provided the opportunity for seniors to live in affordable and safe housing, but through their CHSP program, they have enhanced their quality of life by allowing our elderly to live with dignity and respect through essential supportive services. On behalf of our JAS residents, staff and board of directors, we share our appreciation to HUD for allowing us this opportunity to better serve our residents and their families.
