Sept. 11 Victim Compensation Fund

Dear Mr. Zwick:

I understand that the Department of Justice is inviting public input on the rules governing the administration of the "September 11 Victim Compensation Fund."

As a gay American, I urge the Department of Justice to include among relatives eligible for compensation those who lost their life partners or de facto parents or children, regardless of sexual orientation or marital status. It's very important that all victims be treated equally and none be given special preference due to sexual orientation as would be the case if only heterosexuals who could legally marry were eligible.

Moreover, as a gay Christian, I urge the Department to remember Christ's Commandment during this time of national crisis. He told us we were to treat others as we would want to be treated. Denying equal benefits to gay and lesbian families would not be in accordance with that Commandment; therefore, it would be immoral. Immorality should not govern benefits to hurting families.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Individual Comment
