Description/Abstract A sieve analysis is described for the determination of the fineness of coal.^Coal samples air dried at 10 to 15/sup 0/C above room temperature until the loss in weight is not more than 0.1 percent/h are passed through a set of square-hole, woven-wire cloth sieves of the following sizes: 1.18 mm (No.^16), 600 ..mu..m (No.^30), 300 ..mu..m (No.^50), 150 ..mu..m (No.^100), and 75 ..mu..m (No.^200).^The fineness is calculated from the weights of the residues on the sieves.^Reproducibility of results for one operator using the same set of sieves is +-1 percent and for different operators using different sieves is +-3 percent on the material sieved on the 75-..mu..m (No.^200) sieve.^(BLM)
