Description/Abstract The management of infiltrating carcinoma of the bladder is a difficult therapeutic problem and should be undertaken only in centers where a team of specialists with proper knowledge and training is available. The close co-operation between urologist, radiotherapist, and pathologist is indispensable. With the use of supervoltage, proper indications, adequate technie, and correct combination of irradiation and surgery, the treatment is generally well tolerated and the results are more encouraging than those reported a decade ago. Many reactions and complications can be avoided if certain important precautions are taken. The treatment should be conducted with patients in the best general condition, with good urological function, and freedom from obstruction and gross infection. The time and effort expended in correcting these factors are definitely repaid in the avoidance of reactions and improvement of results. Observations in a four-year experience at the University of Maryland Hospital are presented. (auth)
