Sector 1 Deformation Rig 1
- Maximum applied load = 2000 lb-force
- Loading is displacement-controlled and screw-driven.
- Loading is applied remotely
- Tensile mode only.
- Load is measured with a load cell, mounted below the sample (200-500-1000-2000 lb-rated cells are available)
- Strain is measured independently using either a strain gage or a clip-on extensometer
- Minimum/maximum loading rate?
- Device can be mounted on x-y-z stages, with sample in the center of a Huber eularian cradle.
- Maximum sample rotation without blind spots ~140 degrees.
- Sample dimensions for a recent experiment are shown here.
- Device was designed by Mark Erdmann of the APS.
Image: small tensile device, mounted in center of eulerian cradle. An Al sample with strain gage is loaded using a computer-controlled motor, shown at the top, and load is monitored with a load cell below the sample.
