The following  is  from  the  United  States  Geological  Survey,
National  Earthquake  Information Center:  Preliminary hypocenter
for earthquake of 2009 Jan 03, NEAR THE  NORTH  COAST  OF  PAPUA,
INDONESIA,  about  95  km  (60  miles)  WNW  of Manokwari, Papua,
Indonesia:  latitude 0.7 degrees south, longitude  133.2  degrees
east,  origin  time  22  33 42.9 utc, depth 45 km, magnitude 7.5.
The magnitude and location may be revised  when  additional  data
and further analysis results are available.  No reports of damage
or casualties have been received  at  this  time;  however,  this
earthquake  may  have caused damage due to its location and size.
Earthquakes of this type sometimes cause  tsunamis,  however  the
USGS   has  no  information  that  an  actual  tsunami  has  been

The following is  a  release  by  the  United  States  Geological
Survey,  National  Earthquake  Information Center:  An earthquake
occurred NEAR THE NORTH COAST OF PAPUA, INDONESIA,  about  95  km
(60  miles)  WNW  of  Manokwari,  Indonesia or about 1320 km (820
miles) NNE of DARWIN, Australia at 3:33 PM MST today, Jan 3, 2009
(Jan  04  at  7:33  AM  local  time  in  eastern  Indonisia).   A
PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 7.5 WAS COMPUTED  FOR  THIS  EARTHQUAKE.
The  magnitude  and  location may be revised when additional data
and further analysis results are available.  No reports of damage
or  casualties  have  been  received  at this time; however, this
earthquake may have caused damage due to its location  and  size.
