Higher and higher... from our fevered imagination, a health insurance nightmare.
News story: The Census Bureau reports that the number of Americans lacking health insurance rose to a record total of 47 million in 2006. The increase of 2.2 million-a jump of 4.9%-is the largest one-year hike since 2002, the second year of the Bush administration. The figures were released several months after Congress and a variety of interest groups reacted coolly to Bush's healthcare reform plan and the administration opposed an expansion of children's coverage.
