POSITION SUMMARY

The Center for Computational Sciences and Engineering has an opening for a staff position in applied mathematics. The incumbent will report to the Head of CCSE. The incumbent will serve as project leader for CCSE projects in reacting flow and as deputy to the CCSE group lead. In addition, the incumbent will help provide research leadership for a wide variety of CCSE projects. The incumbent will also participate in CCSE's strategic research planning, particularly in the planning of new initiatives and the development of funding strategies.

DUTIES

Essential -- Perform original research in developing adaptive algorithms for reacting flows with an emphasis in complex kinetics and transport suitable for publication in leading journals. Perform original research in quantitative error analysis suitable for publication in leading journals. Lead reacting flow modeling team to ensure meeting programmatic deliverables. Participate in CCSE strategic planning including formulation of new research directions, development strategies for funding new efforts and allocation of resource to new initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential -- Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a strong research background in computational methods and scientific computing. Demonstrated research ability in numerical analysis with particular emphasis on issues in chemical kinetics and reacting flows. Demonstrated expertise in FORTRAN and C++ programming. Demonstrated ability to initiate new research programs. This includes formulation of plans, development of proposals, development of funding strategies and allocation of resources.
