Introduction: Assessment of a brain surgery procedure should involve different aspects not just: clinician-surgical but it's also important to assess the economic aspects, cost-effectiveness and outcomes of patients. Our study purpose is to appraise how the use of the system for neuronavigation can improve the aspects above. Methods: Assessment of the current situation in the hospitals of Pavia and Bolzano: number and type of neurosurgical operations (period 1998-1999); the existing technology, the type of procedures used at the moment and the organizational structure. Collection of data by bibliography research and at those hospitals that have already experiences of neuronavigation systems. Results: Comparison of data collected inside hospitals with literary evidence and assessment of the improvements in the quoted aspects. Conclusions: Forecast of workloads in the health centres of Pavia and Bolzano. Appraisal for a possible installation of neuronavigation system in those health centers.
