Levin Statement on the State of the Union Address |
|
WASHINGTON – Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., issued the following statement about the President's State of the Union address: I couldn't agree more with the President's message to the nation and to the world that Americans are determined to root out terrorism abroad and to protect our nation's security at home. The American people tonight saw a Congress united in support of the President in that effort. The challenge now is to bring the same bipartisan spirit to an economic recovery package. That package should focus on the needs of the growing number of unemployed people, including helping them to maintain their health insurance. We should avoid economic policies which would send us back into a deficit ditch, and we must not use the Social Security trust fund to pay for additional tax cuts which mainly help the wealthiest among us.
