Dependable Computing Technology R&D Funding Dependable Computing: The U.S. is in the midst of a technology revolution, with computer systems at the heart of many major new applications. This has the potential of providing businesses and consumers with much more timely, accurate, and comprehensive information on which to base major decisions in financial, medical, and other important areas. However, as with any new technology, related applications should be designed and implemented in such a way that users can depend on the application availability and results. It is vital that organizations involved in the development of systems and networking provide technologies which continually improve the security, reliability, availability, and safety of the products. The Information Technology and Applications Office of the Advanced Technology Program at NIST funds R&D projects which fall between basic research and product development. This includes, but is not limited to, products, tools, and services to enable the creation and maintenance of highly dependable computer systems and networked applications.
