This plan is intended to assist schools and communities in their efforts to create safe and nurturing home, school, and community environments for all children in Minnesota. |
Abstract:
|
The plan is community-focused, assumes a long-term commitment, uses a public health approach, and emphasizes that violence by children or adults is learned behavior and is unacceptable. The plan also emphasizes the need to improve coordination of existing services and for all adults to contribute to children's emotional and psychological development. It sets forth seven goals: (1) promotion of the qualities children need to thrive, (2) comprehensive prevention efforts for all learners, (3) protection of all schoolage children and staff, (4) family partnerships with schools, (5) positive school climates, (6) a community focus to promotion and prevention efforts, and (7) changing of social norms to emphasize acceptable ways of solving problems. Specific activities are recommended to accomplish each goal, and sources of technical assistance for accomplishing activities are listed. Appended models, resource lists, and related information |
