Moments after President Bush signed the Jobs and Growth Act, which increases the per child tax credit from $600 to $1,000, Treasury Secretary John Snow directed the Department to issue checks of up to $400 per child to 25 million eligible families. The Treasury has also begun the process of distributing $10 billion in temporary fiscal relief payments to states.
