Wednesday, 1/13/99: Northeast Area: Buffalo area received 5-12 inches of snow yesterday. This is the 13th day of snow. The National Guard has been called in to clear additional snow today. Delivery has been impacted throughout the area. Connecticut and western Massachusetts expecting some sleet and freezing rain later today followed by 3-5 inches of snow tomorrow. Eastern New England also expecting precipitation later tonight and tomorrow. Allegheny Area: Weather conditions are causing flight cancellations and delays at Ohio airports. The Daytime Priority Mail network in Dayton has been shut down due to weather. Non-deliveries have been reported in Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, and Dayton areas. Freezing rain and snow expected today. Great Lakes Area: Due to severe ice storms, the dedicated daytime flights scheduled to operate in and out of Indianapolis Hub have been canceled with the exception of the trips to Chicago and Seattle. The nighttime operation is scheduled to operate tonight. Detroit received 4-5 inches of snow last night and expects another 3-6 inches today. Current operations are manageable but are expected to deteriorate due to severe weather and heavy flight cancellations. Royal Oak is experiencing heavy snow (9-12 inches), along with blowing, drifting, and white-out conditions. As a result, non-deliveries are being reported, particularly in the rural areas. Most of the major roads are declared under travel advisory.
