OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the HIV prevalence and symptoms between Serosal TB (STB) in comparison with Pulmonary TB (PTB) in Center of Tuberculous Research at Kinshasa (an antenna of AIDS Project/HGK). METHODS: Between January 1st, 1996 and December 31st, 1997, all followed-up and treated Tuberculous patients have been physically examined and systematicly tested for HIV. Before and after treatment they were checked-up by thoracic X-rays. The STB (Pleural and Peritoneal) and Pulmonary TB (PTB) are enrolled to be compared. RESULTS: A total 198 patients were selected (mean age was 30 years old, range 4-58), 96 Male and 102 female. Among them 150 (75.8%) cases of PTB and 48 (24.3%) cases of STB (2 cases were pleural and peritoneal) and 1 case had PTB and STB. 110/198 (55.5%) were seropositive of HIV. Signs are distributed as seen in the opposite chart: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME CONCLUSION: The STB is a predictive factor of HIV-infection. It's an insidious starting disease. The symptoms are atypics. So the X-Rays is important to AIDS-patient even if clinical assessment is poor.
